Sold only as a bundle with the book Ending Slavery
Slavery: A Global Investigation was a breakthrough film that showed, for the first time, that there was slavery in the growing of cocoa and in the chocolate we love. It was the opening overture to a great drama that changed the way that industry and anti-slavery groups work together for good. Not surprisingly it won two Emmys and the prestigious Peabody Award. Slavery: A Global Investigation brought about profound changes in the way that the chocolate supply chain is understood, and life-saving changes for children working on cocoa farms.
Today, though the film was made in 2000 and 2001, it is as fresh and compelling as when first broadcast, but it only begins the story and does not explain all the important changes that came after. For that reason Free the Slaves decided in 2008 to distribute the film only as part of a package with the book Ending Slavery: How We Free Today's Slaves - so that the whole story could be told. Chapter 7 of Ending Slavery tells the dramatic story of how this film changed the chocolate industry and helped create a new way to set slaves free, to bring business and anti-slavery groups together, and to get slavery out of the chocolate we love to eat.
